Script: Troubleshoot Keyboard Not Working

1. Start with Basic Questions:

  • Agent: "Is the keyboard completely unresponsive, or are only some keys not working?"
    • If completely unresponsive: Proceed to Step 2.
    • If only some keys are not working: Skip to Step 5.

2. Check Physical Connection:

  • Agent: "Let’s ensure the keyboard is properly connected."
    1. If using a wired keyboard:
      • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to the computer.
      • Try plugging it into a different USB port.
    2. If using a wireless keyboard:
      • Check if the batteries are working or need replacement.
      • Make sure the Bluetooth receiver or dongle is properly connected.
      • Try re-pairing the keyboard via Bluetooth.

3. Restart the Computer:

  • Agent: "Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the issue."
    • Restart the computer and see if the keyboard starts working.
    • If the keyboard works in the BIOS (before the OS loads): The problem is likely with the operating system or drivers.

4. Check for Driver Issues:

  • Agent: "Let’s confirm that the keyboard drivers are properly installed."
    1. On Windows:
      • Open Device Manager → Expand Keyboards.
      • Right-click the keyboard and Uninstall Device. Restart the computer, and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    2. On macOS:
      • Go to System Preferences → Keyboard, and click on Modifier Keys to ensure there are no conflicts.
      • Check if Keyboard Settings are properly configured.

5. Test with Another Device:

  • Agent: "Let’s see if the problem is with the keyboard or the computer."
    1. Connect the keyboard to a different computer or device.
      • If it works: The issue is likely with the original computer’s configuration.
      • If it still doesn’t work: The keyboard might be faulty.

6. Software Settings & Troubleshooting:

  • Agent: "Let's check if some software or settings are interfering."
    1. Ensure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, or Num Lock are not enabled.
      • On Windows: Go to Settings → Ease of Access → Keyboard.
      • On macOS: Check System Preferences → Accessibility → Keyboard.
    2. Scan for viruses or malware that may interfere with input devices.
